FORTVILLE, IN : A two-vehicle accident on Friday, September 1, 2017

Authorities closed Indiana 13 in the area of Madison County Road 1025 South for about four hours Friday following a two-vehicle accident that sent both drivers to the hospital.

The crash occurred about 9:20 a.m., according to the Madison County Sheriff's Department. One of the drivers involved, 32-year-old Kenneth Anderson of Laurel, was airlifted to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. He was listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The other driver, 28-year-old Justin Stephens of Lapel, was taken to Indiana University Health Saxony Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Anderson was driving a 1999 pickup truck southbound on Indiana 13 at a high rate of speed, according to a sheriff's department press release. He apparently crossed a double yellow (no passing) line into the northbound lanes and passed several vehicles before moving back into the southbound lanes.

Anderson's pickup then ran into the back of Stephens' car, a 2007 Ford Mustang, and lost control, according to police.

Authorities say Anderson's pickup hit a guardrail, continued traveling south but crossed into the northbound lane and hit a large tree.

A person purporting to be Anderson's sister posted on Facebook that he had a seizure, causing the accident. She added that Anderson's injuries are life-threatening and that he's in intensive care.
