Louisville, KY : Three-year-old girl dies after car crash on U.S. 31 in Jackson County early Friday morning, May 13, 2016
Indiana State Police say a 3-year-old girl is dead after an early morning crash in Jackson County, Indiana.
According to a news release, it happened at 12:40 a.m. today on U.S. 31, near County Road 500 South in Jackson County.
Police say they believe a 21-year-old Crothersville man lost control of his 2006 Jeep Liberty as he was traveling southbound on U.S. 31. According to the news release, his vehicle crossed the centerline and drove into the path of a northbound 2003 Ford Windstar.
That Ford Windstar was being driven by a 30-year-old Crothersville man, and 3-year-old Tavaya Bevers was riding in the back seat, properly restrained, according to police.
Police say the vehicles collided nearly head-on in the center of the roadway.
Bevers sustained severe injuries from the crash. She was taken via ambulance to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana, where she died from her injuries.
Both drivers received only minor injuries.
"The investigation into the crash is ongoing," the news release states. "Toxicology tests on both drivers are pending."
