Officials say more than a million honey bees in a semi-truck load were scrambled during a fatal collision on I-90 near Wisconsin Dells Saturday.State Patrol officials say 63-year old Frank Williamson of Minneapolis was killed in the late night crash. Authorities say Williamson's Chevy Impala crossed the highway median into oncoming lanes and hit the truck. Officials say Williamson's 30-year old passenger remains hospitalized, while the truck driver has non-life threatening injuries.Authorities a group of commercial beekeepers responded to the crash scene, including a representative of Cazenovia's Bees & Baskets, to help emergency responders control the situation, as thousands of bees crawled, swirled, stung, and attached to light sources in the dark of the highway.Beekeeper Matt Schultz of Schultz Pure Honey in Reedsburg says beekeepers tried to identify intact bee hives and moves boxes of bees to a central location on the highway's shoulder. "That was the goal, to try to save as many (bees) as we could," Schultz says. Schultz and other experts say a pesticide-fueled decline in honey bees makes it imperative to protect bee colonies.
