Las Vegas, NV : Woman, 6-year-old killed and 3-year-old child injured when car crashes into bus stop near Sahara Avenue and Maryland parkway on Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015
Two people have been detained in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed two at a bus stop near Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue this afternoon, Metro Police said.
A four-door sedan drove onto the sidewalk on Sahara east of Maryland next to Chase Bank, striking a 58-year-old woman, a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old who were waiting near the bus stop, according to Metro and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
The accident was reported just after 2:30 p.m., Metro Police Officer Laura Meltzer said.
The woman suffered multiple fractures and the 6-year-old suffered severe head trauma. They were both taken to University Medical Center and have died, Lt. Dave Valenta said.
The other child was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with injuries that did not appear life threatening and is in stable condition, officials said.
A male and female have been detained in connection with the crash, he said.
After the suspect car left the scene, another driver followed it into a commercial parking lot, where a person exited the car and fled on foot to an apartment complex near Sahara and State Street, according to police.
Police searched the complex and located two people believed to be involved, Valenta said.
The bus shelter, which is set back five feet from the curb, was not damaged, RTC spokeswoman Angela Castro said.
Eastbound Sahara was closed near Maryland. Drivers are advised to avoid the area, Meltzer said.
