A driver who said she was blinded by bright, early morning sunlight collided with a truck about 7:50 a.m. Nov. 14 on Route 1.

Police said neither the driver of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf, nor the driver of the 2000 Volvo Conventional commercial truck were injured.

The driver of the car, Letitia Baldwin, 60, of Gouldsboro, was southbound on Route 1 just past the turn off for Route 186 and behind the truck operated by James Flannery, 35, of Penobscot, police said.

The truck, which was hauling a load of rubber tires, made a right turn onto Society Road.

Baldwin swerved to avoid the truck and struck the vehicle on the front passenger side.

The Volkswagen had damage to the left front corner and the air bags were deployed. The car was towed from the scene, police said.

Police said the truck had minor damage to a hydraulic tank but could still be operated.
