Richmond,VI : Trial set for woman charged in crash that killed Highland Springs High School student on July, Thursday 27th 2017
A woman charged with felony homicide in the driving death of a 14-year-old Henrico County girl will be tried on that charge Nov. 9.
Keia Mona Hewlett, 36, of Henrico, also faces a charge of aggravated involuntary manslaughter, five counts of felony child endangerment and a charge of driving under the influence. A grand jury this month handed down the indictments against Hewlett.
Felony homicide is a second-degree murder charge that entails killing someone accidentally while committing a felony, according to prosecutors.
Police said Hewlett was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus that crashed about 4 a.m. April 13 in the 2900 block of Darbytown Road.
Dajanae White, a ninth-grader at Highland Springs High School, died in the single-vehicle crash, police said.
The other passengers in the vehicle were two 11-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, police said. They were taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
