SULPHUR SPRINGS, IN : Woman dies after Henry County crash on Wednesday, February 8th 2017
A 74-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was fatally injured Wednesday in a weather-related traffic accident in northern Henry County.
Burma Thornell died after being taken from the crash scene – near Henry County roads 300-W and 850-N – by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by Thornell's 75-year-old husband, Richard, was southbound when it slid out of control on slick pavement shortly before 5:50 p.m.
The couple’s vehicle, sliding sideways in the roadway, was struck on its passenger side by a northbound vehicle driven by Anthony Peck, 22, Kennard.
Richard Thornelll was also taken to the Muncie hospital for treatment of crash injuries. Peck was released after treatment at Henry County Hospital.
The accident remains under investigation, but deputies said “it is believed that the slick roadway is a significant contributing factor to the accident due to the snow storm at the time,” according to a press release
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police, Sulphur Springs firefighters, Middletown EMS and Cadiz police.
