A New York man is dead after a car struck the pedestrian near the Sandbar State Park on U.S. 2, Milton police said Sunday.

Milton police responded to the scene around 10 p.m. Saturday, closing the roadway for about four hours.

Police said a car driven by Christine Seller, 63, of Cadyville, New York, struck pedestrian John Haskell, 31, of Plattsburgh, New York. Haskell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

Haskell's body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, police said.

The Milton Fire Department, Milton Rescue and Vermont State Police assisted Milton police on scene.
