Berthoud, CO : Cyclist killed in crash with semi in Berthoud on Monday, 20th August 2018

A cyclist killed in a collision with a tanker truck in Berthoud just before noon Monday has been identified as a 62-year-old Fort Collins man.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokesman David Moore said the cyclist and the tanker truck were both headed southbound on Berthoud Parkway, and an authorities believe the cyclist collided with the passenger side of the tanker truck. No other vehicles were involved.

Larimer County Dispatch received a call about the incident at 11:52 a.m. After the crash, the tanker truck sat in the intersection of Berthoud Parkway (County Road 17) and Bunyan Avenue, and the cyclist's body and white road bike were near the dry bulk tank trailer.

Berthoud Parkway was closed between County Road 10E and Mountain Avenue to make way for the Sheriff's Office's Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (CRASH) team. The stretch of roadway was closed until shortly after 5 p.m., about five hours after the collision occurred.

Emergency radio traffic around 3:30 p.m. indicated that the cyclist's next of kin had been notified of the death, though Moore said the identity of the man would not be released until Tuesday morning.
