Palmer Township, PA : One man seriously injured in a car crash on Route 22 in Northampton County on Sunday night, February 28, 2016

Route 22 East was shut for more than three hours late Sunday night and early Monday morning near the 25th Street exit in Palmer Township after a rollover crash in which the driver ended up under the car, township police report.

Joaquin Guzman Diaz, 23, of the 3200 block of Easton Avenue in Bethlehem, was taken by Suburban EMS to St. Luke's University Hospital for treatment after the 10:44 p.m. crash, police said. A hospital supervisor on Monday afternoon said she had no information about Diaz.

The township fire department used hydraulic lifting to free Diaz, who had severe injuries, police said.

The black sedan was in the left lane when the driver lost control, left the highway, re-entered in the right lane, then hit and went up an embankment and struck a tree, police said. The car then rolled over, ejecting the driver and ending up on top of him, police said.

Speed was "definitely a contributing factor" in the crash, police said, although the investigation continues.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation was doing emergency repairs on the highway after it reopened, police said.
