Three people, including a 3-year-old girl, died in a collision in southern Iowa

Three people, including a 3-year-old girl, died in a collision in southern Iowa Wednesday afternoon amid what authorities said were poor road conditions.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. in northern Decatur County, on County Road J20 just east of U.S. Highway 69, the Iowa State Patrol said. Troopers reported that Sherissa Goodman, 35, of Leon was driving a car east toward Garden Grove when she lost control “due to road conditions” and drove into the path of a westbound pickup truck.

Fatally injured were Goodman, Charles Downard, 31, of Van Wert, and Shayla Matte, 3, of Leon. The pickup driver, 21-year-old Jeremiah Boswell of Lamoni, was injured and taken to the Decatur County Hospital.
