Rogue River, OR : Semi-truck loaded with meat crashes on I-5 in southern Oregon Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015

A semi truck crash outside Rogue River slowed southbound traffic for about six hours and backed up vehicles for about four miles Sunday afternoon and evening.

The Oregon Department of Transportation first reported the crash at about 1:30 p.m. near milepost 50 on the Foothill Road bridge. A semi truck carrying about 60,000 pounds of meat crashed while driving south and came to rest on its side, ODOT officials said. The condition of the driver remained unknown Sunday evening, as did the reason for the crash.
The Oregon Department of Transportation briefly closed both lanes for about 10 minutes from 6:43 to 6:53 p.m., and reopened one lane afterward. Traffic remained at a crawl for several hours while crews on scene cleared the truck and trailer off the road.
Officials also temporarily closed the exit 55 southbound off ramp just a little before 7 p.m. due to mounting backups. All lanes reopened at about 7:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by ODOT and Oregon State Police.
