Helena, MT : 20-year-old woman died after pickup truck crashed into a commercial truck pulling an excavator at the intersection of Green Meadow and Lincoln Road Monday morning, Oct 26, 2015
Breanna Jean Jenkins, 20, of East Helena, died in Monday's crash at Lincoln Road and Green Meadow Drive, the county coroner said.
Jenkins died at the scene from traumatic internal injuries, Coroner Mickey Nelson said.
Jenkins was driving a pickup northbound on Green Meadow when she failed to yield to a commercial truck pulling a flatbed trailer and an excavator, said Jay Nelson, a sergeant with the Montana Highway Patrol. The commercial truck was turning left onto Green Meadow when the pickup slammed into it at "a very high speed," he said.
Nelson said in addition to re-creating the crash, troopers are trying to secure information from the pickup's black box.
"This will give us a better understanding of the speed," he said.
Jenkins was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the commercial truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. Toxicology reports have been submitted for testing.
