Abilene,TX : 64-year-old man dies in wreck near Coleman on December, Wednesday 27th 2017

A Coleman man was killed in a one-vehicle crash a mile east of Coleman on Farm Road 568 Wednesday afternoon.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the man as Darrell Glen Phillips, 64.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Phillips was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup east on FM 568 when it veered off the road, went through a fence into a field and struck a tree.

Phillips, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounce dead at the scene.

Unlike a rash of accidents on patches of ice Wednesday, this one apparently was not weather-related. The DPS reported the road was dry. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
