TRAVERSE CITY, MI : Man killed in M-72 crash identified on Tuesday, November 15th 2016
A man killed in a crash on M-72 in Leelanau County has been identified.
William C. Hauxwell, 63, of Maple City, was driving his Chrysler minivan Tuesday morning on Maple City Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a semitractor-trailer driving west on M-72, a release from the Michigan State Police said.
Authorities believe Hauxwell was killed instantly in the crash and that dense fog could have been a factor in the crash, the release said.
The driver of the double gravel train semitractor, a Mancelona man, 47, was uninjured in the crash, the release said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
M-72 was closed for several hours as troopers and crews investigated and cleared the scene.
