WANATAH ,IN : South Central graduate dies in accident on July, Sunday 30th 2017
A former South Central High School basketball player was killed early Sunday morning as the result of an accident involving an off road vehicle.
David Williams Jr., 19, of Union Mills was reportedly riding in a 2013 Polaris Ranger with two other occupants when the driver made a sharp turn at a high rate of speed causing the vehicle to flip onto its side and land on top of Williams.
None of the three occupants were wearing seat belts or using a helmet, according to Indiana Department of Natural Resources report.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the fatal accident, which occurred shortly after midnight in the area of 1100 W and 1500 S on Sunday.
Williams was a graduate of South Central High School where he was an accomplished basketball player.
It was determined the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Neither of the other two occupants of the vehicle were injured in the crash.
Williams was stated to be unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene. He was transported to Porter Regional Hospital by La Porte County EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.
