Anderson, CA : Two people killed in crash on Missouri Lane in a neighborhood just north of Anderson on Sunday night, Aug 30, 2015

California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of vehicle that crashed into a tree, killing two people in Anderson on Sunday night, fled from the scene and holed himself up in a nearby home Sunday night.

CHP officer Mike Cregger said the car was going north on Missouri Lane in a neighborhood just north of Anderson when for an unknown reason the car smashed into a tree at about 5:30 p.m..

The driver got out of the vehicle and left the area and fled to a home on Spring Gulch Road, about a half-mile from the crash, Cregger said.

The CHP did not have the names of the two passengers who died, nor did they release the name of the driver, who was later arrested. Both the passengers were males, though.

Cregger said alcohol may have been involved in the crash because an open container of liquor was found in the vehicle, which came to rest after the crash in the middle of a nearby pasture.

A witness who came upon the crash shortly after it happened said all three people in the car looked seriously injured when he approached the vehicle. He was able to help the driver out of the car.

The witness, who did not want to be named, said the man fell to his hands and knees briefly after getting out of the car. He eventually got to his feet and started briskly walking away.

The man who helped the driver said he noticed all three people in the car were wearing gloves.

The witness said he and some others followed the man, who as he went down the street would randomly approach homes and attempt to get inside. If he was unable to enter a house, he would walk farther and try another home, the man said.

The witness said the driver of the car, who had blood all over him, also repeatedly threatened him and told him to leave.

“He spit blood at me and threatened to fight me,” the man said.

The witness said he followed the man to the house he eventually entered and then left after the CHP showed up.

Officers from the CHP, Anderson Police Department and Shasta County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the house and after about two hours eventually led a man out in handcuffs. No other information about the suspect was available Sunday night.
