The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a person in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a car near Kingstree.
Cpl. Sonny Collins tells local media outlets that the accident happened around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday when a sedan struck the person in the motorized wheelchair as it tried to cross U.S. 52 in Williamsburg County.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
Collins says no charges will be filed against the driver of the car because the wheelchair was illegally crossing the highway.
