Paterson, NJ : 20 injured after 2 NJ Transit buses crash inside Lincoln Tunnel on Monday, July 18, 2016
Two NJ Transit buses carrying 103 people collided in the Lincoln Tunnel Monday, causing major traffic delays, injuring 20 people, authorities said.
Port Authority traffic alerts reported a 130-minute delay through the tunnel to New York due to a bus crash in the center tube.
NJ Transit Spokesman Jim Smith said the two NJ Transit buses collided in the center tube at 7:34 a.m. The crash involved a 114 bus from Plainfield, carrying 46 passengers and a 190 bus from Paterson, with 57 people aboard, he said. The 114 bus rear-ended the 190 bus, Smith said.
Of the 20 people injured, none were considered serious and 13 were transported by New York City EMS to hospitals, said Steve Coleman, a Port Authority spokesman.
Smith said bus service to and from Port Authority bus terminal had delays of up to 30 minutes. Port Authority alerts reported the crash was cleared from the center tube at 8:44 a.m., but delays continued.
Port Authority traffic alerts reported that eastbound traffic on Route 495 was backed-up to the New Jersey Turnpike.
