Police have identified the pedestrian who suffered a brain injury after being struck by a car in North Plainfield on Sunday as Jorge Arequipa, 44, of Plainfield.

A crash investigation report, signed by North Plainfield officer Donald Everett, reported Arequipa walked into the lane of moving traffic on Watchung Avenue at about 1:20 p.m.

Arequipa was hit by a vehicle driven by Robert Paoli, 78, of North Plainfield, according to Everett's report.

Two witnesses said Arequipa walked into the lane of travel and one said he "just literally stepped into the side" of Everett's vehicle, the report said.
