Columbia County, FL : Lake City man killed in early morning crash on Sunday, 29th December, 2019

A Lake City man died in a crash early Sunday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and hit a utility pole in Columbia County.

Matias Ault, 20, was driving a 2013 Kia Optima north on State Road 47 near Southwest Ward Lane at about 1:48 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Also traveling in the sedan were Zachary Smithy, 20, and Victor Arteaga, 19, both of Lake City.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, the release said, and the front left side of the sedan hit the pole before coming to a final rest in a ditch beside the road.

Authorities pronounced Ault dead on the scene, the release said.

Smithy and Arteaga were both taken to Lake City Medical Center with serious injuries.
