Fort Collins, CO : Driver identified in fatal pedestrian crash in Fort Collins on Thursday, February 2nd 2017

The driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian who appears to have slipped and fallen into traffic has been identified.Kevin Darst, 38, of Fort Collins, was traveling in the right lane of southbound South Taft Hill Road just north of Clearview Avenue at 6:05 p.m. Thursday. The pedestrian was walking southbound on the west sidewalk and possibly slipped or fell into the path of the 2004 maroon Toyota Sienna that Darst was driving, according to Fort Collins Police Services. The man died at the scene. His name will be released by the Larimer County Coroner's office.

The area where the incident occurred has a narrow sidewalk of about 2 feet that is ice-packed and right next to the road.

The intersection of South Taft Hill Road and Clearview Avenue was closed for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about the collision and who has not already given a statement to police is asked to contact Officer Shane Hasebroock at 970-221-6555.The crash was one of three that occurred in less than a two-hour span Thursday evening, including another that involved a pedestrian.

That incident involved a vehicle striking a pedestrian near Heatheridge and Prospect roads, which is about a mile from where the fatal crash occurred. Initial reports indicated the pedestrian suffered a broken leg and was transported to an area hospital.

Emergency crews also responded to a multiple-car crash at Lemay Avenue and Swallow Road that resulted in minor injuries.

The three crashes across Fort Collins came in the wake of the previous day's ice storm, which led to five fatal crashes in Larimer, Weld, Morgan and Logan counties Wednesday.
