Cincinnati, OH : 2 kids struck by vehicle in South Fairmount Wednesday afternoon on June 11, 2014
Two children were struck by a vehicle and seriously injured while riding their bicycles on a sidewalk in East Price Hill Wednesday afternoon.
A 9-year-old boy suffered a broken leg and a "serious facial fracture," said Lt. Lisa Davis, acting public information officer for the Cincinnati Police Department.
An 11-year-old boy also suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Davis said.
Police suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, Davis said.
Crystal Weldy, 36, was driving on Westwood Avenue around 3:45 p.m. when her vehicle jumped the curb and struck the two children from behind, Davis said.
Weldy voluntarily submitted to sobriety tests at the police station, she said.
The results could take a week to come back.
"Charges are pending," Davis said.
Weldy was traveling with a seven year old in the backseat. Neither Weldy nor the seven year old were injured.
The crash happened at a section of Westwood Avenue some residents refer to as "Dead Man's Curve."
Angela Perkins has lived on the street for two years. During that time there time there have been 18 wrecks, Perkins said.
"I don't even let my kids outside because of that," she said.
Perkins said one of her neighbors moved because of the dangerous nature of the road. Now, she said she is in the process of moving for the same reason.
Tifane Madgwick, who lives on the adjacent Amor Place, said the crash caused a hectic scene.
Relatives of one of the boys came running up the street to comfort him and blood dotted the street where the children were hit.
Westwood Avenue was shut down at Grand Avenue for about two hours while police investigated.
