STATEN ISLAND, NY : Driver of car critical after crash with bus on Richmond Ave. in Eltingville on Friday, 21st June 2019

The driver of a car is in critical condition following a crash with an MTA express bus on Richmond Avenue in Eltingville during the Friday morning rush hour, police said.

The bus operator suffered minor injures in the crash, which is under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad, according to an NYPD spokesman.

Three people were taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to a spokesman for the FDNY.The crash, which was reported at 6:14 a.m. and involved a badly-damaged car and an MTA bus, is on Richmond in the vicinity of Petrus and Bartlett avenues.

Richmond and other streets in the area are blocked to traffic. The location is in between the Eltingville train station and the Eltingville Transit Center.

Buses detoured because of the crash include the S59, S89, S79-SBS, SIM1, SIM7, SIM9 and SIM10, according to the MTA.

“A SIM11 bus was on the road without passengers, before its route began, when a car traveling in the opposite direction crossed the double yellow line and struck our bus head-on,” according to a spokesman for the MTA. He added that the “bus operator suffered non-life-threatening injury.”
