Car versus motorcycle collision leaves one man injured Friday evening.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday an injury accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 99 and Road L. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were dispatched to the scene.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Shafer says in a press release upon arrival at the scene it was determined Will Symmonds, 37, was injured in the collision. Symmonds was southbound in the 2300 block of Highway 99, driving a red, 2003 Triumph Tiger motorcycle, when a tan, 2002 Maxda 626, driven by Abiigail Newport, 22, of Emporia was traveling northbound in the 2300 block of Highway 99. Newport’s vehicle traveled left of center attempting to merge onto Road L, striking Symmonds’ motorcycle.
Symmonds was transported to Newman Regional Health by ambulance and later transported by helicopter to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. His injuries were non-life-threatening. Newport was treated and released at the scene for injuries sustained during the accident. Newport was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
“The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists to remain vigilant as the weather gets warmer motorcyclist and bicyclist traffic will increase,” Shafer said. “The accident remains under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.”
