n off-duty Brevard Corrections Deputy was killed Friday in a motorcycle crash in Palm Bay, the department announced in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Jonathan “Keith” Hardin, a 10-year veteran who worked in the jail, was killed in the crash near Palm Bay.
“[Keith] is well-loved and known throughout the jail complex as having a big heart, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and someone you could always count on during challenging times,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in the post. “Keith took great pride in being a member of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and was valued member of the agency.”
He was sworn in as a corrections deputy in 2008 after graduating from the Eastern Florida State College Criminal Justice Institute.
In the post, the Sheriff’s Office said it was working with Hardin’s family to complete funeral arrangements and would share them with the community.
On Feb. 17, the sheriff’s office suffered another loss with the death of Field Training Officer Kevin Stanton, who died in a traffic crash on Interstate-95.
