Canaan NH : Driver killed in Canaan collision on Route 4 Tuesday afternoon May 27th 2014.

State police identified the woman who was killed when the rear portion of a tractor-trailer truck slid around a corner, slamming into her car.

Police said the tractor-trailer was heading west on Tuesday afternoon and turned a corner on Route 4 when the trailer suddenly slid into oncoming traffic.

Luana Heikes, of Canaan, was unable to avoid the trailer.

The collision sent her Honda Civic off the road and into the trees. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Canaan police, along with the state police traffic accident reconstruction unit and commercial vehicle unit, continue to investigate the crash.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor, but they are investigating whether speed played a role. They also said there was heavy rain at the time.
