Jonesboro, AR : Man charged with DWI after crashing into tree in Craighead County on Monday night, January 25, 2016
A one-vehicle wreck Monday night left two men injured after the car wrapped around a tree.
According to the Jonesboro Police Department's Public Information Specialist Paul Holmes, the car was traveling along North Church Street just north of the Thomas Green intersection when it struck a tree in front of a home.
The incident report states the driver, 30-year-old Brian Thomas of Jonesboro, was stumbling around the vehicle with blood on his face and shirt when police arrived on the scene.
Officers said Thomas smelled of alcohol and would not cooperate with police or emergency officials.
Thomas was handcuffed so EMS could restrain him and transport to the hospital for treatment.
Holmes stated Thomas was taken to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital with injuries to his head and face. He was later taken to The MED in Memphis for further treatment.
The passenger, who was trapped in the car and had to be cut out, was taken to St. Bernards with injuries to his legs, neck and back.
A neighbor on the scene said the passenger, who was his friend, called him for help.
“He called me first before he called anybody else. He didn't know where he was at," Mark Clanton said. “Didn't know what happened or how he ended up against a tree. He just knew he was hurt and he called me and had me come try to help him."
Police charged Thomas with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and three other misdemeanors.
