Yorkshire, NY : Buffalo-based Army National Guardsman died in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 16 on a rural western New York road on Saturday, March 28, 2015

State police say a member of a Buffalo-based Army National Guard unit has died in a two-vehicle collision on a rural western New York road.

Troopers say 21-year-old Brenden DeCarlo of Olean was driving north on state Route 16 around 6 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle crossed into the other lane and collided with an ambulance in the northern Cattaraugus County town of Yorkshire, 30 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Police say DeCarlo was pronounced dead at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville, New York.

A member of the ambulance crew suffered a minor injury and was treated and released.

National Guard officials say DeCarlo was a specialist assigned to the headquarters of the 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion in Buffalo.
