Russell , KS : Hutchinson woman hurt in I-70 crash on Sunday, 26th January, 2020
A Hutchinson woman escaped serious injury when her vehicle ran off of Interstate 70 near Russell on Sunday and landed in a creek.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Trudy L. Haynes, 51, was initially driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-70.
She managed to turn around and get into the eastbound lanes, but then her 2003 Honda Accord ran off the right side of the roadway, struck the drainage ditch and became airborne.
The vehicle re-entered the roadway and traveled a short distance eastbound before again running off the roadway to the right, where it went through a KDOT fence and came to rest in a creek that feeds into a pond.
Haynes, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Russell Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
The crash occurred just after 3 p.m. about 7 miles west of Russell.
