Axton Man Dies in Crash in Pittsylvania

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a single vehicle crash that occurred last night around 7:30 pm on Route 58 one fourth mile east of Route 855 in Pittsylvania County. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Volvo S70 sedan was traveling eastbound when the driver ran off the right side of the roadway striking an embankment which caused the vehicle to become airborne before it struck a tree. The driver Tonche Maurice Hodge, age 39, of Axton, Virginia was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Hodge was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details regarding the crash are available at this time.
