Fort Jackson, South Carolina
Military officials have identified the two soldiers killed after a military vehicle struck them while they were in formation at an Army base in South Carolina.
A statement from Fort Jackson on Saturday identified the dead as Pvt. Ethan Shrader of Prospect, Tennessee, and Pvt. Timothy Ashcraft of Greater Cincinnati.
Ashcraft was a 2017 graduate of the now-shuttered Amelia High School, according to West Clermont School District officials. He enlisted following his graduation.
"We are thankful for his dedication and service to our country," the district wrote on its Facebook page. "His impact on the entire West Clermont community will not soon be forgotten."
The district said grief counselors would be available for students.
The injured were identified as Pvt. Emmett Foreman from Daleville, Alabama; Pvt. Hannah New of Cartersville, Georgia; Pvt. Benjamin Key of Livingston, Tennessee; Pvt. Alan Kryszak of Clarksville, Tennessee; Pvt. Cardre Jackson Jr., Laurel, Maryland; and Pvt. James Foster, Macon, Georgia.
Fort Jackson called the incident Friday a "tragic accident," but didn't say where the wreck happened or the type of vehicle involved.
"We are continuing to support everyone affected by this tragic event," U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson Commander Maj. Gen. Pete Johnson said. "I am very appreciative for all the exceptional support from the Columbia medical community."
Fort Jackson is the Army's largest training installation, with more than 50,000 recruits assigned there each year.
