Los Angeles,CA : Motorcyclist dies in crash with pickup on 5 Freeway near 210 Freeway on August, Tuesday 29th 2017

A longtime Pierce College employee who transferred to Los Angeles Valley College in April was killed Tuesday in a Sylmar-area motorcycle crash.

Bill Judge, who had worked at Pierce College in Woodland Hills since 2004 before he worked at Valley College in Valley Glen, died after his Harley-Davidson motorcycle crashed, Los Angeles Valley College president Erika Endrijonas confirmed.

The 53-year-old Lancaster motorcyclist, who officially went by William Ralph Judge, was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway, south of the 210 Freeway, said Brian Elias of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

The crash was reported at 4:24 a.m.

The truck’s driver was uninjured, California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard added.

The Toyota T100 struck a center divider on the southbound 5 Freeway just north of Roxford Street and was facing sideways, blocking the carpool lane, before the motorcycle smashed into it four minutes later, Greengard said.

A passing Los Angeles Police Department unit arrived on scene around 4:30 a.m. and reported that the motorcyclist was unconscious and not breathing, the CHP said.

Judge began his service to the Los Angeles Community College District at Los Angeles City College in May 2001 as a provisional employee, Endrijonas said.

He is survived by his wife Merce and three adult sons, the president said.

“He will be missed by everyone who knew him, especially at Valley and Pierce, where he worked most recently,” Endrijonas added in a statement. “Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts at this difficult time.”

Greengard said Judge was wearing a helmet.

The conditions made it tough for the motorcyclist because it was dark outside and the truck sat sideways with no tail lights or headlights immediately visible, Greengard added.

“It’s just an unfortunate ending,” Greengard added.

The carpool, No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 freeway lanes were blocked after the crash. All lanes were opened at 7:45 a.m.
