South Kingstown,RI : Woman seriously injured in two-car crash in Somerset on September, Saturday 23th 2017

A crash left a woman trapped in her car on Slades Ferry Boulevard and Brayton Avenue Saturday morning.

Power tools got the woman free and on her way to the trauma unit at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Police and firefighters were called at 10:30 a.m. to the scene of a two-car crash.

When they arrived, they found an older woman trapped inside her Chevrolet sedan, Fire Chief Scott Jepson said.

“The collision got the door stuck,” he said. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life, a pneumatic prying device, to force the door open so they could get into the car and tend to the driver, Jepson said.

“It took about 10 minutes with the tool to get the door open to get to the woman,” he said.

She had serious but not life-threatening injuries, he said.

A family of four, two adults and two children, were in the other car. They were taken by rescue to Charlton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Jepson said.
