Coldwater, MI : Bronson man airlifted after crash in Batavia Township early Sunday morning, March 5, 2017
A young Bronson-area man suffered serious injuries early Sunday morning, when he wrapped his SUV around a tree.
The incident happened just after midnight on Ember Road in Batavia Township.
Bronson Fire Department was called to extricate the man from the driver's seat, after the dash and crushed driver's door pinned him in the wreckage.
Firefighters also set up a landing zone so that AirCare could fly the victim from the scene to a Kalamazoo trauma center.
Residents at a nearby home heard the crash and called 911. One, a registered nurse, aided the conscious, screaming driver until LifeCare Ambulance arrived.
The man was wearing a seat belt, but the airbags did not deploy.
Michigan State Police were called to investigate. Both alcohol and speed along the rural dirt road are believed responsible for the crash.
The name and other details of the accident were not available Sunday because the MSP Marshall Post is closed on weekends.
Firefighters were on the scene for nearly two hours before AirCare removed the patient.
