Yakima, WA : Yakima police sergeant injured in three-car crash Saturday on October 22 2016
A Yakima police sergeant is recovering this week after her patrol car was hit in a three-car crash just outside police headquarters Saturday.
Sgt. Shelley Upton, a 25-year veteran, was treated and released from a local hospital after two cars struck her patrol vehicle, police spokesman Mike Bastinelli said. She is recuperating from a back injury, he said.
A 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Maria Martinez, 41, of Union Gap, was heading east on East Walnut Street when it ran a red light around 2:50 p.m., Bastinelli said, colliding with a 2015 Nissan Altima that was heading south on South Second Street.
The two cars then struck Upton’s patrol car, which had just pulled out of YPD headquarters, Bastinelli said.
