Jones County ,MS : Propane truck and Pick up Truck collision in Jones County on Monday morning ,July 27th 2015

Monday morning, July 27, a crash involving a propane truck and a pickup truck could have been a disastrous situation, but, fortunately, disaster was averted.

At 7:03 a.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from Powers and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the wreck, which occurred on Highway 184 in front of Dixie Electric Power Association. Upon arrival rescue personnel found a Herring Propane Truck, upright, off the road and in a ditch after being hit from behind by a GMC Sierra Z71. The propane truck had slowed, almost to a stop, for traffic ahead that was turning into Dixie Electric. Although the Sierra received heavy front-end damage, the propane truck was not damaged.

Officials on scene said the whole incident could have been worse, had the propane truck turned over in the ditch.

The drivers of both trucks appeared to be uninjured and refused transportation to the hospital. Emergency medical responders credit the lack of serious injuries to the driver of the Sierra Z71 to the deployment of the airbags, and the driver wearing his seatbelt.

One lane of Hwy. 184 was closed to traffic for nearly 45 minutes during the emergency response and vehicle recovery operations.

Also responding to the accident were Jones County Sheriff’s Department, EMServ Ambulance Service, and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
