Knoxville ,TN :Four injured in Interstate 275 North ramp crash on Friday , June 26th 2015
A ramp has reopened around 8:50 a.m Friday from Interstate 40 West to Interstate 275 North after a crash left multiple people injured, according to Knox County Dispatch.Knoxville police said four people were transported to an area hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, after responding to the four-vehicle crash around 4:54 a.m. Five people were involved in the crash.Kristin Woods, 24, of Rocky Top, the driver of one of the cars, is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.Police said a preliminary investigation show 26-year-old William Jerde of Knoxville drove a GMC Envoy and crashed it into the rear of a Ford Mustang, which was the vehicle driven by Woods. Woods was accompanied by 52-year-old Lesha Massengill.Woods then crashed the Mustang into the rear of a Nissan Maxima driven by 44-year-old Dexter Richey. The impact caused the Maxima to be pushed out of the line in traffic before the Mustang slammed into a 2000 Freightliner. Vernon Johnson Jr., 62, of Knoxville drove the Freightliner.Police said based on evidence gathered during the investigation, it appears Jerde, who was driving the Mustang, was using his cell phone when he ran into the rear of the Mustang driven by Woods.The vehicles in the crash were two cars, one SUV and a small truck.Northbound traffic is affected as the ramp to Interstate 275 is blocked. Southbound traffic remains unaffected at this time.The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the area is expected to be cleared around 8:30 a.m.
