A 61-year-old man was killed in an car accident with a SEPTA paratransit van Wednesday evening in West Philadelphia, police said.
About 5:50 p.m., the man was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring south on Cobbs Creek Parkway at Whitby Avenue when the sedan veered across the road and hit a guardrail. The car was then struck on the passenger side by the SEPTA van. The driver of the Sebring was taken by medics to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m.
The paratransit driver, a 33-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with back pain. An 85-year-old woman in the van was being treated for hand pain. Another passenger, a 75-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for observation. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
