Topeka,KS : Pilot strikes street sign while taking off in McPherson County, crashes on April, Tuesday 24th 2018
A pilot suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening after a plane crash Tuesday in McPherson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol received a report of a downed plane just before 2 p.m., northeast of Roxbury, KHP Trooper Ben Gardner said.
KHP’s crash log identified the pilot of the single-engine aircraft as Shannon R. Scot, 57, of Alma.
Scot, who was the only occupant in the small plane, had already been transported to a Salina hospital when KHP arrived at the scene, but Gardner said he was reportedly up walking and talking at the scene of the crash.
Gardner interviewed Scot at the hospital. The pilot was attempting to take off from a blacktop road when the left wing struck a street sign, Gardner said. After getting some air, the plane came back down.
Gardner said he was in communication with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Officials said in certain circumstances, taking off from a street is legal and there was no indication that the pilot had broken the law, Gardner said.
