CANTON, OH : 4-year-old seriously hurt in crash on Tuesday, January, 16th 2018

A four-vehicle crash shortly before 5:35 p.m. Tuesday at 39th Street and Market Avenue N seriously injured a 4-year-old boy, police and fire officials said.

The child was taken to Mercy Medical Center and then transported by helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital, Police Lt. Dan McCartney said, adding that emergency responders initially thought the child had died.

He said police officers were working to determine what had happened as of 7:42 p.m. and that the crash scene had not yet been cleared. McCartney said he did not have information on what exactly happened, where the child was from or the identities of the people operating or riding in the vehicles. No one else was transported to a hospital.

McCartney said according to initial reports, a sport-utility vehicle, two trucks and a black car were involved in the accident.
