BRANFORD, CT : A one-car accident around midnight in southern Suwannee County on Saturday, July 29, 2017
A one-car accident around midnight in southern Suwannee County left two people in serious condition Saturday.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Ford Mustang was traveling north on U.S. Highway 27 approaching 37th Road near Branford when it traveled briefly onto the east shoulder.
When the driver steered to the left, the vehicle rotated counter-clockwise and crossed both lanes of traffic and continued off the west side of U.S. 27, the report states.
The Mustang then overturned several times and came to rest in heavy underbrush off the west side of the highway, according to the report.
Both 54-year-old Roger Lockwood, of Wellborn, and 41-year-old Candita Pelley, of Lake City, were ejected from the car and suffered serious injuries, the report states.
Both Lockwood and Pelley claimed the other was driving, according to the report, and due to those conflicting reports, the lack of physical evidence and no independent witnesses, the driver has not been determined.
The two occupants were treated on the scene by Suwannee County Fire Rescue EMS and were life-flighted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
Charges are pending an investigation and the role alcohol played in the accident is unknown, according to the report.
