Police have identified a city teenager as the victim in the fatal hit and run that occurred late Tuesday night on Mechanic Street.
Francis Fortuna, 19, of 77 White St., was struck while walking along Mechanic at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to acting Police Chief Michael Goldman.
His body was reported by a motorist driving by at about 6:30 a.m.Wednesday, said Goldman.
Fortuna was pronounced dead at the scene after EMS personnel arrived, he said.
Police have questioned one person in connection with the fatal hit and run, said Goldman, who added that no arrest has been made.
"The case is still active," he said..
Goldman also said investigators collected "physical evidence" from the scene in an attempt to identify and locate the vehicle involved.
The hit and run occurred on Mechanic Street between the Johnny Ro Veterans Memorial Park and Gove Farm near the Interstate 190 overpass and just beyond where the sidewalks end at the memorial park.
