Lafayette, LA : 18 year old Juliana Gerami killed in car crash into fence off of LA 31 at Cypress Island Extension Road in St. Martin Parish on Sunday, March 13, 2016

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 10:22 am on LA 31 at Cypress Island Extension Road in St. Martin Parish.

Police say 18 year old Juliana Gerami of Lafayette, La died as a result of the crash.

State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 18-year-old Hunter Mansour of Alexandria was driving northbound on LA 31 approaching the intersection of Cypress Island Extension Road. In an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision with another vehicle Mansour veered to the right.

In doing so, Mansour ran off of the right side of the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a chain link fence.

Mansour was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His passenger, Juliana Gerami was also wearing a seat belt, but suffered fatal injuries.

Gerami was pronounced dead at the scene.

A rear seat passenger, 18 year old Samantha Rivero of Lafayette, was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured

Mansour was cited for Careless Operation, however; this crash remains under investigation.
