Cape Coral ,FL : 14-year-old Teen seriously injured in Crash after hit by a truck while riding bicycle on Saturday ,April 4th 2015

Cape Coral Police tell us a 14-year-old was hit by a truck Saturday afternoon in the 900 block of Santa Barbara Blvd. South when the teen's bicycle was involved in a crash with a pickup truck.

The unidentified teen was taken to Tampa General Hospital by medical helicopter after he suffered life threatening injuries.

Police say the teen was riding his bicycle south on the west sidewalk of Santa Barbara Boulevard when he called back to a companion, also on a bicycle, to cross the road. That is when the 14-year-old drove off the sidewalk and into the path of the oncoming Dodge truck.

The vehicle's outside mirror hit the teen and knocked him off the bicycle. He was unconscious when medics arrived.

The teen was not wearing a helmet and was listed in critical condition.

Police ruled out alcohol or drugs as a factor in this crash.
