Baton Rouge, LA : Franklin woman killed in Loreauville Road crash on April, Wednesday 5th 2017

A two-vehicle crash in the 3500 block of Loreauville Road Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a Franklin woman, according to Louisiana State Police.

The wreck occurred near Aucoin Road in Iberia Parish.

The initial LSP investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Jesse Romero, 36, of Hondo, Texas, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet truck westbound on LA 86 when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a 2007 Toyota Sienna driven by Jody Charpentier, 58, of Franklin.

The front end cap of Romero's truck was completely demolished, found on the roadside resting against a mailbox.

Charpentier's vehicle came to a rest on its side.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m. Acadian Ambulance, Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1 and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel also responded.

An Acadian Ambulance AirMed helicopter arrived at 11:40 a.m. and took Romero to a hospital for medical treatment. Romero was not wearing a seat belt and suffered critical injuries.

Charpentier was wearing a seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.

There were no other passengers in either vehicle at the time of the crash.

Impairment is unknown at this time, and toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, the results of which are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
