Tallahassee, FL: Baker County High senior killed in I-10 crash; she was a competitive barrel horse racer on Thursday, January 19th 2017
A Baker County High School senior whose Facebook page is filled with photos of her barrel horse racing was killed Thursday night in a crash on Interstate 10 just east of U.S. 301 near Baldwin.
Brieana “Brie” Ahearn, 18, also competed for the school’s weightlifting team, according to her Facebook.
She was driving east on I-10 about 9:30 p.m. when she lost control of her Toyota pickup truck, went into the median and overturned multiple times. Ahearn was thrown from the pickup and ended up in the median since she wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Toyota ended up on its roof, blocking a westbound lane and part of a second one. That’s when a large truck hit the pickup as its driver took evasive action, then hit a guardrail and caught fire as it came to a rest, the Highway Patrol said.
Two more vehicles also were involved in the crash, which shut down the interstate for hours as the Highway Patrol investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
Ahearn lived in Jacksonville with her mother but went to school in Glen St. Mary not far from where her grandmother lives, according to WJXT TV-4.
