BOSTON, MA : Boston driver who struck, killed child gets up to 8 years on Friday, 7th October 2016

A Boston driver convicted of leaving the scene after striking and killing an 8-year-old girl has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

James Horton also was sentenced Friday to four years’ probation and ordered to pay $10,000 restitution to the family of the girl, Yadielys DeLeon Camacho. He said in court he was ashamed and asked for forgiveness.

The 45-year-old Horton pleaded guilty to charges including manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision causing death.

Prosecutors say Horton was driving nearly twice the 30 mph speed limit in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood in June 2015 when he struck the girl and her 12-year-old cousin, who were playing on a bike during a birthday party.

Prosecutors say Horton fled on foot and was arrested the next day in Brockton.
