Knoxville, TN : Driver sought after I-40 collision with motorcyclist near the Cedar Bluff Road exit in West Knoxvillle on Monday night, Oct 5, 2015

Knoxville police are investigating a crash Monday night in which a motorist fled after colliding with a motorcyclist on Interstate 40 West near the Cedar Bluff Road exit in West Knoxvillle.

The motorcyclist was being treated Monday night at University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

Police were notified of the crash about 9 p.m.

"Witnesses told officers that a red Ford Escort was in the left lane of the exit ramp to Cedar Bluff Road and the red Honda motorcycle was in the right lane," according to a release from KPD Sgt. John Coward. "Witnesses stated that the Ford Escort changed lanes in front of the motorcycle to take the ramp to Executive Park Drive. The motorcycle struck the rear of the Ford Escort."

The extent of the motorcyclist's injuries were unknown and his name was not released Monday night.

According to Coward, the driver of the Ford Escort fled on foot.
