St. Johns County, FL : Two people seriously injured when a Jeep hit a scooter on US 1 in St. Johns County on Thursday night, January 22, 2015

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigation a crash involving a Jeep and a scooter that took place Thursday night.

A man and a woman were transported to UF Health Jacksonville by air in serious condition, according to Jeremy Robshaw with St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

The two people, who were on the scooter, were traveling southbound on U.S. 1 when they were rear-ended by a Jeep, according to FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan.

They were thrown from the scooter and were not wearing helmets, Bryan said.

All southbound lanes on U.S. 1 at Island Landing Drive were blocked for about three-and-a-half hours and reopened just before 11 p.m.
